Behind the scenes of an interior fragrance: from creation in Grasse to your living room
When the delicate mist from your diffuser fills your home with a note of sandalwood or orange blossom, it’s easy to forget everything that came before this moment. Yet behind each of our fragrances lies a long journey: from the flower fields of the Grasse region to the expert hands of a perfumer, and on to the technology that faithfully recreates the perfumer's work in your home. Let’s open the doors of the workshop.
It all starts in Grasse, the world capital of perfume
Nestled in the hinterland of the Côte d’Azur, Grasse is not like any other city. Since the 17th century, it has been cultivating, distilling, and composing the greatest perfumes in the world. Its exceptional microclimate has made the Centifolia rose, jasmine, tuberose, and orange blossom flourish: materials so emblematic that the savoir-faire associated with the perfume of Grasse has been inscribed on the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage List since 2018.
Even today, the greatest luxury houses have their fragrances composed here. It is in this unique ecosystem that Sens Collection fragrances are born.
Raw materials: excellence at the source
The difference between a supermarket air freshener and an interior fragrance from Grasse lies first in the ingredients. Mediterranean citrus essences, floral absolutes, precious woods, amber resins, delicate musks: the Grasse perfumer’s palette draws on raw materials selected for their richness and naturalness.
This is what gives our perfumes their depth: a quality fragrance is never a single, flat scent, but a living architecture.
The architecture of a fragrance: top, heart and base notes
Like a great perfume, each Sens Collection fragrance is created in three stages:
The top notes : the first impression, bright and volatile: citrus, green notes, aromatic herbs. They come through in the very first seconds of diffusion.
The heart notes : the soul of the fragrance, which unfolds next: flowers, fruits, spices. This is what gives the atmosphere its character.
The base notes : the lasting imprint: woods, amber, musks, vanilla. They envelop the room and leave a lasting scent memory.
It is this pyramid structure that makes a quality interior fragrance evolve in the air and tell a story, whereas a low-end product simply repeats the same harsh note until the room is saturated.
Formulation: designing the fragrance for diffusion
Once the fragrance is created, there remains a decisive and invisible step: the formulation.
This is not a technical detail. The viscosity, volatility, and balance of the components are all designed to ensure that the mist of microdroplets remains suspended in the air for a long time, diffusing the fragrance homogeneously and reproducing each note without altering it. The bottle and diffuser are not two separate products: they are a duo designed to work together.
From the bottle to your living room
It is only at the end of this journey that a fragrance joins our collection and, perhaps, your home.
So the next time your diffuser releases its first wisps of Thé blanc or Soupçon d’Encens, you’ll know what you’re really breathing in: four centuries of Grasse craftsmanship, months of creation, and the simple ambition of turning your everyday life into a sensory experience.
