Top, heart and base notes: how nebulization reveals your interior fragrance
An interior fragrance is not just a smell: it is a composition, built like a fine perfume, with top, heart and base notes. But what you actually smell at home depends as much on how the fragrance is diffused as on the formula itself.
At Sens Collection, we have made a choice: to diffuse only by nebulization. Here is why this technique lets you smell the fragrance exactly as the perfumer imagined it in Grasse.
What is the olfactory pyramid?
Perfumers describe a fragrance as a three-tier pyramid. Each tier brings together materials that differ in lightness and in role.
At the top, the top notes form the first impression. Fresh and sparkling, they are the first thing you notice: bergamot, lemon, grapefruit, mint or eucalyptus.
In the center, the heart notes give the fragrance its character and identity. You often find flowers such as orange blossom, rose or jasmine, but also tea or sweet spices.
At the base, the base notes bring depth, warmth and the signature that lingers. These are the richest materials: sandalwood, cedar, musk, amber, vanilla or vetiver.
A successful perfume is the balance between these three layers. Remove the base notes, it becomes flat and fleeting. Remove the top notes, it loses its sparkle.
A perfume that unfolds in several stages
The three layers do not evaporate at the same rate. The top notes are made of light molecules that fly off first. The heavier base notes remain longer.
On the skin, this is what gives a perfume its charm: it reveals itself in stages. In a room, the goal is different: you want to find the atmosphere you chose, every single day. This is where the way the fragrance is diffused becomes so important.
What nebulization does
Nebulization turns the pure fragrance into a mist of micro-droplets, cold, without water or heat. Each droplet contains the complete composition: top, heart and base notes, in their original proportions.
In concrete terms, this changes three things.
First, the fragrance stays true: you smell the whole composition, as it was created, not just the notes that evaporate fastest. Second, it stays consistent: the first and last drop of the bottle smell the same, for an identical atmosphere day after day. Finally, the intensity is under control: diffusion is adjusted to the size of the space, without ever saturating the room.
Diffusing all the notes together does not mean blurring them. The lighter top-note molecules spread fastest through the air: they are the first thing you notice when entering a room, before the heart and base notes reveal themselves. And because our diffusers work in cycles, alternating diffusion and pauses, the base notes linger longer in the air and on fabrics during each pause. The scent pyramid thus plays out again, cycle after cycle, while keeping the balance the perfumer intended.
It is for this reason that nebulization is the preferred technique for hotels, boutiques and professional spaces that want a recognizable olfactory signature day after day.
Read the pyramid to choose your perfume well
Knowing the dominant notes of a perfume helps you choose it according to the space and the desired atmosphere.
A fragrance dominated by top notes, built around citrus, green or marine notes, brings energy and freshness. It is ideal for an entrance hall, a kitchen, an office or a shop's reception area.
A fragrance dominated by heart notes, more floral, tea-like or lightly spicy, plays on elegance and softness. It naturally finds its place in a living room, a bedroom, a fashion boutique or a beauty salon.
Finally, a fragrance with a dominant base note, woody, amber or musky, creates a warm and cocooning atmosphere. It is the ideal companion for autumn and winter evenings, in a hotel lounge or in a restaurant.

Three Sens Collection fragrances up close
Agrumes Musc — the solar radiance At the top, bergamot and yuzu bring a vibrant, sparkling freshness. At the heart, neroli adds a bright floral touch. At the base, cedar and musk add roundness. A fragrance whose three tiers are all clearly present: exactly the kind of composition that nebulization enhances, because the freshness of the citrus does not fade behind the base.
Fleur d’Oranger — The timeless flower At the heart of this fragrance, orange blossom, the iconic floral note of the South of France, brings elegance and light. It is warmed by woody notes and rests on a soft musky base. A delicate, refined, heart-driven fragrance, ideal for a living room, a bedroom or a welcoming reception area.
Bois de Sens — the woody warmth Cedar and warm woody accords create a deep scent trail. A base-note-driven fragrance that brings character and a sense of serenity to a living room, an office or a reception area.
In summary
Top, heart and base notes: every tier counts. Nebulization is the only technique that diffuses them together, cold, in their original proportions. You enjoy your fragrance just as it was created in Grasse, from the first drop to the last.
